Delft Tile after Teniers

1

Hello,
Could you please help me identify the approximate year of production of the Delft tile.
The tile image is after 'Smokers in an Interior' by David Teniers the Younger.
I believe that the tile was made by De Twee Scheepjes factory.
Thank you very much,
Oleg

Verdict:

  • Not Delftware

Analysis:

  • Not made in Delft The term Delftware is only used for earthenware actually produced in Delft. Read more
  • More recent production technique After 1850, factories in and outside Holland developed more efficient and cheaper production techniques. This goes beyond the scope of this website. Read more
  • Hand-painted An important characteristic of authentic Delftware is that it is hand-painted. Printing techniques do not occur on this earthenware. Read more
  • Mark of a non-Delft pottery/factory The typical Delftware also inspires producers outside of Delft, but genuine Delftware has only been produced in Delft. Read more

Dear Oleg, firstly pardon the late reply. We have a bit of a backlog because of many requests. Sadly the plaque is not an original antique. It was probably produced in France around 1900. It is produced after the Teniers 'Smokers' as was done in the 17th and 18th century in Delft. A plaque as this one would have been framed like a painting on canvas or panel and could be hung on the wall. Enjoy the plaque!
