sailboat plate & tiny clog

1

Salad size plate & clog is probably about an inch long.

Vraag

Please excuse the numbers, those are for my siblings.
First question is always, are these REALLY Delft?
Sorry I don't have the dimensions, these have been packed up again.
If they are Delft, just curious on any information at all.
thanks!

Verdict:

  • Not Delftware

Analysis:

  • Not made in Delft The term Delftware is only used for earthenware actually produced in Delft. Read more
  • More recent production technique After 1850, factories in and outside Holland developed more efficient and cheaper production techniques. This goes beyond the scope of this website. Read more
  • Hand-painted An important characteristic of authentic Delftware is that it is hand-painted. Printing techniques do not occur on this earthenware. Read more
  • Mark of a non-Delft pottery/factory The typical Delftware also inspires producers outside of Delft, but genuine Delftware has only been produced in Delft. Read more

Both are not authentic Delft. The plate, marked with the conjoined IO mark was produced at the decorative ceramics factory ‘Ons Ideaal’ in the city of Gouda. The underglaze blue painting is the so called ‘new technique’ and it was done in the second half of the 20th century. I like the initials, although I do not know what they stand for. The clog is a souvenir. 😉
