Gourd shape Vase with Landscape and two holes

1

Unmarked vase with windmill scene on one side, flowers on the back. The vase has a hole in the bottom. The background glaze is very slightly light blue. The object is obviously handmade and handpainted, and has crazing. It appears old. The top is unfinished.

Vraag

Is this Delft at all? Why is there a hole in the bottom? Does this go with another piece that might be missing? Why is the background glaze light blue (especially on the bottom) and not just white? Any help you can give is appreciated.

Verdict:

  • Not Delftware

Analysis:

  • Not made in Delft The term Delftware is only used for earthenware actually produced in Delft. Read more
  • More recent production technique After 1850, factories in and outside Holland developed more efficient and cheaper production techniques. This goes beyond the scope of this website. Read more

It indeed seems to be part of a larger object, maybe the stem of a lamp or such?! Sorry I cannot say anything with certainty.
