Dish

This is a round dish with a flat bottom and high 1 inch rim that is rounded. It has of course blue flowers painted on white porcelain and on the back it says "DELFTS" and it has a mark that looks somewhat like an a with a line down the center.

  • Not Delftware

  • More recent production technique After 1850, factories in and outside Holland developed more efficient and cheaper production techniques. This goes beyond the scope of this website. Read more
  • Hand-painted An important characteristic of authentic Delftware is that it is hand-painted. Printing techniques do not occur on this earthenware. Read more
  • Unidentified mark Not all marks found on earthenware have been identified. It could be a ‘new’ Delft mark! But it could also be a mark that was not used in Delft. Read more

This plate looks like delftware from Delft, but probably isn't. The mark 'Delfts' is normally an indication that the object was styled like old traditional delftware from the factories in Delft, but wasn't made there. I don't recognize the mark, but the object might be made in Gouda or Schoonhoven. I believe it to be quite modern looking at the model of the plate: 1990-2020.
