pair 50cm urns with tops, marked IW
Vraag
I have a note that these were J.W.Hoppestein, decorator at the Old Moor's Head pottery, early 17th century. Is that true?

Unfortunately these vases were made in France around 1900 .
Kind regards,

Thank you.
I see the style would not be one by Hoppestein. Is that how you know?
Would the IW mark then be a forgery?

The I W mark is probably the mark of the painter . I think there was no intention to make it look like Hoppestein .

Analysis:
Sadly but surely I agree with the assessment of Mr. Maes. These probably very impressive vases are possibly not Dutch. From the decoration I think they were made around the 1880’s. For more information about the Hoppesteyn family you may see this article.
