Wall plate

Good evening,

Your plate is indeed made in 1898 (year code T) by the Porceleyne Fles in Delft. The amount of crackle corresponds with a plate of that age. It's interesting to see a signature which looks a lot like the one from C. Hartog but as you correctly stated that can't be the case. Maybe it's from Heukelom C. v.  1892-1905? The other one is indeed from Gerbrands, P.J and checks out with the date it's made. The stamp with XR I have read about before, I will try to find more information tomorrow. Valuations are not given on this website though.

An abstract from Royal Delft, A guide to the Porcelyne Fles by Rick Erickson page 233: "Usually the models with either mark Nos. 9 (Your mark is number 9) or 10 also have one or more letters or numbers impressed into the clay. The most common letters are A, B, D, E, R ,V, W, X and Z. The size and positioning of the letters and numbers can vary considerably, and their use was continued into at least the 1920s, long after the use of other impressed marks had ceased. The exact purpose of these letters and numbers is unknown. The author theorises that the formers who cast or moulded each piece on a potter's wheel may have used the letters or numbers as a form of signature."
