House Shaped Bank

1

This house shaped bank has a slot to add money on the roof. The stopper on the bottom to remove the coins is missing. The following information is on the bottom: Zenith, Made in Holland, Hand Painted, and 2 markings that I am hoping someone can identify in the photos.

Vraag

I hoping to find out the date this bank was made, and what the two maker's mark on the bottom mean.

  • Not made in Delft The term Delftware is only used for earthenware actually produced in Delft. Read more
  • More recent production technique After 1850, factories in and outside Holland developed more efficient and cheaper production techniques. This goes beyond the scope of this website. Read more

Thanks for your questions Suzette. As you have identified, this piece is produced by Zenith - a pottery in Gouda (nearby but not in Delft). The marks are either year marks or painter's initials, but you've probably guessed as much. Unfortunately, I don't know enough about the factory to inform you any further - perhaps someone else will know.
