Vraag

Is this authentic? And, if so, what do the three marks at the bottom mean? VDK or DVK? Is the V0116 a pattern? Is the final mark b/w.? Thank you all for your help.

Verdict:

  • Not Delftware

Analysis:

  • Not made in Delft The term Delftware is only used for earthenware actually produced in Delft. Read more
  • More recent production technique After 1850, factories in and outside Holland developed more efficient and cheaper production techniques. This goes beyond the scope of this website. Read more

If the question is whether this is authentic antique Delftware, the answer is no unfortunately. On the bottom we can see that this is a more modern production method/material. You can check out more on the recognition of this here: https://delftsaardewerk.nl/en/recognize/material. But also the mention of all the words on the bottom (handpainted, Holland, Delfts) are markers of 20th century serial or mass production. The words are used for marketing, to indicate a relation with the antique or modern Delftware still made in Delft. https://delftsaardewerk.nl/en/recognize/marks. I think the last video will also tell you something about your other questions!
