Your vase does not belong to the authentic Delft earthenware from around 1650-1850, but is new, underglaze painting, the so-called new technique, made after 1950 at Kunstaardewerkfabriek 'Velsen' in Sassenheim, province of South Holland, the Netherlands. It probably came with a lid, the pottery painter was most likely Piet Wassenaar. The history of the company, with slightly different names and different owners and other products (art deco) and a different place (Velsen, province of North Holland) ran from 1920, the company stopped in 2002/2003, greetings jvdh.

Thank you so much for this information! now I can research it bit more:)

  • Hand-painted An important characteristic of authentic Delftware is that it is hand-painted. Printing techniques do not occur on this earthenware. Read more
  • Mark of a non-Delft pottery/factory The typical Delftware also inspires producers outside of Delft, but genuine Delftware has only been produced in Delft. Read more
