Porceleyne Fles Bottle/Jug

2

Porceleyne Fles Jug/Bottle. Bluish/green colour. Illustrated with windmill and 3 ladies in clogs on one side and tree on the reverse. Signed LB on the side of the bottle. Also has two marks of a cows head and two bottles.

Vraag

Is the signarure on the side of the bottle that of Lucas Bols - it looks similar to one on your website. What does the cows head and two bottles symbolise? I have identified Porcelyne Fles and Joost Thooft marks at base what do other x and v symbols mean. Is it a limited edition at the base it says G41 61?

Hello,

From 1880 until about 1940 the Porceleyne Fles produced special kruiken (crocks) for Bols. Yours was intended for the home market and these styles were made in very small quantities.

X is the year code which stands for 1902
LV is the painter’s initial and this bottle is painted by Johannes van Lijnschooten and he was employed for the Porceleyne Fles from 1889 until 1935.

Kind regards, Patrick
