Small Dish with Delft word

2

Small blue and white with trees, pond and birds depicted. Upper inside edge is scalloped. outside edge decorated with reeds along the base edge

Vraag

Is this an actual Delft item? Stamp is green, a bit unreadable, but I believe it says Vienna Austria, and I cannot make out the word or mark at the upper portion of the stamp. The word Delft is printed with a "bow" shaped D in delft blue. I don't see any other items online with these types of markings. What is your opinion? Thank You!

This is indeed made in Vienna, Austia by Leonard. They made it like Delft decor just as they made German, Chinese, English tableware.

The stamp was used around 1910-1920

Included an example of the complete stamp as well as another example of Delft copy.

Verdict:

  • Not Delftware

Analysis:

  • Not made in Delft The term Delftware is only used for earthenware actually produced in Delft. Read more
  • More recent production technique After 1850, factories in and outside Holland developed more efficient and cheaper production techniques. This goes beyond the scope of this website. Read more
  • Mark of a non-Delft pottery/factory The typical Delftware also inspires producers outside of Delft, but genuine Delftware has only been produced in Delft. Read more
