Bonjour,

Unfortunately it’s an early 20th century French reproduction with a fake mark from Pieter Kocx: https://delftsaardewerk.nl/merk/apk

One of the most common fake marks that we see on reproductions.

Kind regards, Patrick

Bonjour Patrick,

Thank you for your reply, much appreciated.

Verdict:

  • Not Delftware

Analysis:

  • Not made in Delft The term Delftware is only used for earthenware actually produced in Delft. Read more
  • More recent production technique After 1850, factories in and outside Holland developed more efficient and cheaper production techniques. This goes beyond the scope of this website. Read more
  • Forged mark In the 19th century, a financial incentive arose to sell more new earthenware as antique Delftware, sometimes even bearing forged Delft factory marks. Read more

Merk:

  • APK False

As stated by Patrick above, this mark has been often falsified and in many cases, the red colour of the mark is an indiciation of this (sometimes it is applied on existing pieces after the finishing fire to let it pass as Delftware). The style, but also the material from the looks of it indicatie newer production processes.
