Garden Scene with blossoming trees, a fabulous beast with dragon head and a flying phoenix. 4 foliate panels with fabulous beasts and butterflies round the rim.

In the literature, I only find polychrome enamels. Does anyone know of any others in blue and white?

Analysis:

  • Not made in Delft The term Delftware is only used for earthenware actually produced in Delft. Read more
  • Tin-glazed earthenware Earthenware with a glaze to which tin oxide has been added to make it opaque white. Delftware produced before 1850 is always covered with a tin glaze. Read more
  • Hand-painted An important characteristic of authentic Delftware is that it is hand-painted. Printing techniques do not occur on this earthenware. Read more

Another interesting piece. I agree with Jeroen Hartgers. I do not know of monochrome blue examples either, but Dumortier's book on Dèvres does mention that this decor was produced in polychrome or camaïeu bleu (p. 126, no. 11.1)
