Wall tile with ship decoration, red clay

2

A blue bordered tile of a ship, It does have sagging lines through the back. Front and edges are glazed, though no glaze on three corners. No marks as far as I can determine. There is crazing and some chipping on the edges.

Vraag

I purchased this tile today very affordably and just curious if it could possibly be delftware. (I'm not presuming it is, nor presuming it is old given the red clay, but would appreciate additional insight!)

This is a hand painted tile in the tin glaze technique. Indeed the traditional technique of Delft earthenware, but this tile is not Delft or Dutch, and probably 20th century

Beoordeling:

  • Niet-Delfts

Toelichting:

Many thanks to Johan for the clear answer! For further inspiration on Dutch tiles, we highly recommend looking at the collection of the Dutch Tile Museum (Nederlands Tegelmuseum) online, or if you can, in the Netherlands: https://nederlandstegelmuseum.nl/.
