Tea Caddy

3

A tea caddy with original lid I think.
Figures painted on both front and back.

Vraag

I’d like to know which factory? What date you think it is made?
Is this a rare piece?
Is it Delft?
Thank you.

  • Niet-Delfts

Toelichting:

Dear Possumhall1920,
Thanks for sharing you tea caddy with us. It is not an authentic Delft piece. To my opinion it is a late 19th century object. Working from home I cannot find the interlaced AG mark. If it were Dutch, the G in the mark would make me think of the production city of Gouda. We know a similar ZG mark for a factory called Zenith in that town. This caddy and especially the figures make me wonder if this is not an English caddy though. Maybe one of the other user here can give you a bit more information.
All best, Robert.

I wondered if it were English too. The owner found it in Wales.
how is it you would know if it were late 19th , or late 18th  century?
your world is fascinating to me- detective work on beautiful found objects.

thank you for your ideas. Are you the editor of Delftsardewerk?
I do have two more beautiful cachepot or vases to show
I now wonder if these are Delft rather than a faience ware for France with Asian style painting- orange and blue _please see below-thanks Julie
