A tile showing three children holding up a flame

Vraag

We found this while sorting out my grandparents house after they passed away and are trying to find out more information about where it might have come from.

This is Delft from "De Porceleyne Fles" in the period of Thooft & Labouchère. The bottle with TL inside is calles also " Flesje JT".

This tile has a religious background. The inscription means: high is the flame lifted with powers given by you.

Supposedly from the period 1884 to 1890. Joost Thooft died in 1890. Later, the brand became a J and T intertwined with a bottle and the word Delft underneath.

kind regards FRanky

This mark with a bottle and the characters TL was also used for long after 1910 for the 'cloisonné'-tiles (tube line/line relief decoration).

Your tile has been ordered in or after 1945 by the 'Nationale Commissie tot het uitzenden van Nederlandsche Kinderen'. Many Dutch children were in bad condition after the Dutch Famine of 1944-1945. A national committee tried to restore the health of the 'bleekneusjes' (pale faces)  by sending them for some weeks to host families in the countryside. 30,000 children were sent for some time to other countries (nearly 10,000 to the UK). And these children could give this tile to their host family to express their gratitude.

The tile is designed by H.J. Tieman (1921-2001), who started in 1938 as designer of cloisonne-tegels at Porceleyne Fles.
