This is from De Paauw (1651-1774) during the period of 1719 - 1725, a so-called lightning board, inspired by Chinese examples. The orange used on this plate suggests a date after 1720, as orange posed long-standing problems during the firing process. It wasn't until the first half of the 18th century that a solution was found.

Dear Franky,

Thank you for all the detailed information on this plate, especially what you told me about the orange color, which clarified some of the questions I had.

Sincerely yours,

Actually, the name lightning board is a poorly interpreted designation. The erratic contour refers to the water lines and the zig-zag lines are nothing more than the bridges found in, among others, Japanese gardens. An identical plate can be found in the ceramic museum in Sèvres, France. You truly have a beautiful piece in your possession. Best regards, Franky

Dear Franky,

Thank you for the very helpful information again.

I had read that the pattern was called `Lightning pattern’ in a book, but I’m so surprised that it is based on a design similar to Japanese, for example, Irises at Yatsuhashi (Eight Bridges).
